Being able to turn pain into purpose creates deep meaning in life. I drew this stroke by stroke while I was bedridden and unable to feed myself. I was placed outside the door of my hotel room in California while staying there for treatment. I felt as if I was dying when a little girl walking with her parents ran up to me and began smiling and giggling. Her bright spirit and blue eyes demonstrated the contrast of joy and sorrow that reminded me of how simple life can be if we let it.
